History is the second single Billy has released as part of CBS’ Fire Country original soundtrack, following Burn.

After the success of the first release, which reached no. 21 on the US iTunes chart, everyone expected his character Vince to step up to the mic again sooner or later.
 
In February 2024 Hidden Remote‘s Sabrina Reed asked Billy about it. Here’s his reply: “We had talked about it early on before we started the season [but] it’s obviously an abbreviated season because of the strike, so we haven’t had time to cultivate how that might work in the story again yet. But if it doesn’t happen this season, fingers crossed for next.” Rumors about a new performance and a new song started circulating when CBS released a number of promotional pictures for episode 2×09 that showed Vince playing his guitar and entertaining the Three Rock crew during a campfire scene. Not long after Billy himself confirmed TV Insider a new song was about to be released: “They told me about what was going to happen in [Fire Country episode] 209. We originally talked about maybe just doing a cover song for this campfire scene, and then we sort of tossed it around back and forth and I said, ‘Well, I got this other thing.’ I’ve got a bevy of songs that I can poke into once in a while and see what’s appropriate. Anyway, I went and found this song, and I pitched them the song and they said, ‘Yep, that’s awesome. Let’s do that.’ And then we went into the studio again and recorded a whole song. Now, I haven’t seen the episode. I don’t know how much we’re even going to use of the song in the episode. I just know that it’s in there, and then the song will be released on all the streaming venues as the episode comes out, which is just lovely. I love that the show’s giving me the opportunity to do that.”

Written and performed by Billy and produced by Tom Polce, History is featured in episode 2×09, No Future, No Consequences, that aired on Friday, May 10, 2024. On the same day CBS released the song on all major streaming platforms.
